The New Aaron Sorkin show on HBO: The Newsroom
Trailer for the new Aaron Sorkin series about the MSM. I watched the first episode online and, as usual, you feel sad that Sorkin's world isn't what's really happening.

Holy cow! That was awesome. Thank you so much for posting the link, xedniw. I had no idea you could watch that online. I thought I wouldn't get to see it because I don't have HBO. Excellent!

As long as he lets them know the facts while entertaining them.
Sad that entertaiment has to inform as information feels it must entertain instead of informing. Anger is an energy. |

We've been wondering all weekend if you made it through the storm and the ongoing aftermath okay. So yea! Now the only remaining person from DC, as far as I remember, is Naja. Jest checked in Saturday morning. I'm very glad to hear from you.

RE: The New Aaron Sorkin show on HBO: The Newsroom
Thanks Andrea. I truly am grateful for the concern!!!
I'm at work now and can't type too much. We've no power but have water and gas. We slept on the living room floor last night as the bedrooms are stifling. My wife is taking our daughter about today. Many places do have electricitry. Just not our houses. The neighborhood is a mess. There are power lines and trees down still. Probably going to be a week before we're back to near normal. Anger is an energy. |

(07-02-2012 07:22 AM)NowIknowWhy Wrote: As long as he lets them know the facts while entertaining them. An essential, crucial aspect of the overarching 'dumbing down' process. If it's straight reporting of data, only the indoctrinated professional class will follow it, and even then only if said data fits with the background assumptions they've long internalized in order to make themselves subservient to the ideals of the business world. Otherwise the data reported on is either ignored or attacked, b/c it isn't seen as profitable. Being aware and knowledgeable of data/info that doesn't yield profit and admirable social status is pointless to the professional class - what's the point of knowing something if your knowing it won't get you higher up the corporate ladder, won't make you attractive in the eyes of others, and won't allow you to exploit and make $ off others? Which brings you to the Daily Show level of 'news;' clearly there's a greater working class/working poor demographic tuning in, and since entertainment is used to distract that part of the surplus populace in ALL matters of 'American life,' you can't suddenly present them straight data sans the humor/entertainment aspects without them finding it 'boring.' In this capacity, it's not much different than how the populace turns a blind eye to the crimes of a Dem presidential admin (versus an overtly RW one that wears its fascism on its sleeve) , making these sort of 'funny' "news" shows actually far more evil than even FAUX, b/c for the untrained mind, what they present has a phony air of challenging/questioning authority, when in actuality, it's all about ensuring greater adherence to national myths and propaganda. (I'm not saying that about this new Aaron Sorkin show, 'cause I haven't watched it yet ... but be serious; if HBO is backing it, how truly subversive to the dominant interests can it actually be?) |

Ran across this quite by accident. One could argue that Sorkin glosses over some important distinctions, but a show like this could, at least, begin the discussion. |
